Los Angeles Burlesque

The Los Angeles community has a rich and diverse contemporary burlesque scene, from its roots in the mid-90s with the Velvet Hammer to its current state– bursting at the proverbial seams with over 40 burlesque shows each month. The Velvet Hammer was instrumental in the rise of neo-burlesque, a seminal force in mixing traditional Vaudevillian performance and punk attitude, and the current climate of L.A. burlesque offers everything from troupe-based cabaret to fully classic revues, with all kinds of comedy and performance art in between.
