What is the Hollywood Burlesque Festival?
EXT. HOLLYWOOD — NIGHT
Searchlights pierce the night sky as palm trees gently sway in the high desert breeze. Hopeful starlets and celebrities dripping with glitz and glamour drift down the red carpet to the biggest party in town.
And you’re invited.
The Magic Store. The Dream Factory. Since the birth of motion pictures, Hollywood has been the destination for those with dreams of making millions of people happy. There’s a reason why it’s called the Entertainment Capital of the World.
Once home to some of the greatest burlesque houses and nightclubs in the world — Largo, Slapsy Maxie’s, The Majestic, The Burbank Theater, Ciro’s (where Lili St. Cyr was arrested for performing her bathtub number), Earl Carroll Theater, The Orpheum, and The Follies — against the backdrop of this entertainment mecca, we are proud to the Hollywood and Southern California Burlesque Festival.
The Hollywood Burlesque Festival was established to ensure the ongoing tradition of burlesque in the arts; to raise awareness and appreciation of an art form that both empowers and admires the human figure.
Our festival celebrates the glamorous yesterday and exciting today of burlesque over three nights of showcases, and competitions.
